The Challenge

Following aggressive M&A and global expansion, the engineering organization was bogged down by 13+ disparate platforms operating in silos. The core infrastructure was facing massive bottleneck issues, and cloud expenditure had ballooned to unsustainable levels, burning heavily through capital while slowing down deployment velocity across the 400+ engineering team.

The Architectural Solution

I spearheaded a pragmatic Clean Architecture transformation. Instead of a multi-year rewrite, we aggressively decoupled bottleneck services into highly-performant, lightweight NestJS applications unified behind a GraphQL interface, while maintaining the core Ruby on Rails monolith and keeping it lean.

We optimized our data layer heavily, implementing PgBouncer for connection pooling and Redis for high-availability caching, allowing the multi-tenant SaaS architecture to scale globally without linear cost increases.

The Result

By optimizing the infrastructure and consolidating the tech stack, we achieved over $400,000 in monthly AWS cost reductions ($4.8M annually — a 73% reduction). The multi-tenant ecosystem became unified under REEF OS and PARK OS, achieving 99.6% uptime and accelerating deployment velocity by 35%.
